How often should I change my oil?

Many newer-model vehicles come equipped with an Intelligent Oil‐Life Monitor® that determines when you should change the engine oil based on how your vehicle is used. This means you do not have to remember to change the oil on a mileage-based schedule. Your vehicle lets you know when an oil change is due by displaying a message in the information display.

Paying close attention to your vehicle's owner's manual and its recommended scheduled maintenance intervals will help ensure that oil changes are done before any engine damage can occur.

FordPass Rewards Visa®

Ford owners who follow their vehicle's maintenance schedule can expect to see improved engine performance, better fuel-efficiency, and lower repair costs, so it's important to know when your vehicle should be brought in for an oil change. As engines become more sophisticated and efficient, the number of miles per oil change has increased. Below you can find the recommendations for our vehicle's maintenance schedule.

  • Owner's Manual - Every Ford vehicle, whether it's a car, truck, or SUV, comes with a manual providing you with the recommended oil change schedule for your particular model. By following the owner's manual's recommendation, you can protect your engine from damage.
  • New Model Fords - Ford vehicles manufactured in 2008 and later, we recommend changing your oil every 7,500 miles or six months. Whichever comes first.
  • Older Model Fords - For Ford vehicles manufactured in 2007 or earlier, we recommend changing your oil every 5,000 miles or every six months. Whichever comes first.
  • Dashboard Messages - Many newer-model vehicles have intuitive dashboard warning lights which will alert drivers when their engine oil needs to be replaced. DO NOT ignore this warning. Instead, schedule your oil change service with Yankee Ford.
